Bio- Kaytee (Kaytlyn) Gillis is a psychotherapist, author, consultant, and proud cat mom. She specializes in working with survivors of family and relationship trauma, particularly those who survived psychological trauma within IPV and in family units. She has been in clinical practice for over a decade and started her writing journey only 4 years ago.
She has a popular column on Psychology Today called Invisible Bruises. She writes articles about family and relationship trauma, including symptoms to look for, ways to empower healing, tips for navigating the healing process, and support and validation for survivors.
Kaytee has published three books on relational trauma, and she is currently working on her 4th. She has been consulted on and contributed to numerous other books, articles, and media outlets as an expert and sought after media contributor for the topics of family and relationship trauma.
She began writing during the pandemic, publishing her first book shortly after. It started as a way to get information out to clients, many of whom were stuck at home with limited support and resources. Her first book, Invisible Bruises, How a Better Understanding of the Patterns of Domestic Violence can Help Survivors Navigate the Legal System, includes tips and tools for those navigating the legal system trying to get protection from domestic violence. The response was unreal, and led to an even greater awareness of the need that was still there. A couple years later, she published her second book. It’s Not High Conflict, It’s Post Separation Abuse, was released as a response to this need, and provides support and tips for those currently going through post separation abuse in the legal system.
Last year, Kaytee published her most recent book, Breaking the Cycle, the 6 Stages of Healing from Childhood Family Trauma. “This book was a source of healing for me to complete,” she reports. It is a culmination of her clinical and personal experience. Her passion in working with family trauma survivors is evident throughout this book.
She has been a contributor to the esteemed Psychotherapy Networker Journal, is a regular contributor to Psychology Today, and been featured on CP24 News, Scripps News, TIME Magazine, BBC, and many other media outlets.
Kaytee loves a good cup of coffee: her favorite order is a mocha latte. She has traveled to many places throughout the world, and reports that the best cups of coffee (and some of the nicest people) are found in Central and South America. An avid traveler, she has been to over 30 countries and attributes these opportunities as contributing to her personal and spiritual growth over the years.
Kaytee is a full time doctoral student and hopes to continue making an impact in the clinical and survivor communities. She lives with her partner, Juan, and their two fur kids, Gomez and Binx- who run the household with iron paws.
