How Jamielynn's Rogue House Salon is taking over NYC's East Side with 5 Great Perks for Clients
They say life is what you make of it. But if you're born into a migrant family in the United States, there's an extra push to go all the way and succeed. It is the American dream after all. For Jamielynn De Leon, it was a tale of pursuing her passion against all odds. So, breaking free from the stereotypes of a typical Filipino background and leveraging the support she received from her single mom who had to work three jobs after the death of her father, Jamielynn decided to do what was necessary, and has now emerged as a fast-growing hairstyling brand in New York.
As a young girl, she was already fascinated by beauty and business. She was in awe every time magic was done with someone's hair. The glamor, enamor and elegance that a good hairstyle provides are unmistakable. So, she knew all along what she wanted to do. In high school, she bagged a cosmetology license, and then moved on to UCSB for a Bachelor's degree. Several years and salon experiences later- including a stint with Ted Gibson- Jamielynn decided to set up her own salon- one that aims to disrupt the industry and open up the space for self expression.
When we spoke to her recently, the excitement and prospect had not waned off. In her usual bubbly spirit, she proposed why Rogue House Salon is the next best thing in New York's world of hairstyling. "Asides craving a deep understanding of the client's needs and expectations, we also make their opinions count. There are so many overpriced salons in New York, but many of them still leave much to be desired. Here, we are passionate, well trained and always open to change and trends", she says.
But beyond that, there are five perks that make the hairstyling experience at Rogue House worth the while. First, Rogue House has shown commitment to the wellbeing of their clients' hair over the years. They take hair care outside the salon by providing swag packs, a group of hair care products, at quite affordable prices. The aim, they say, is to empower you to look your best and give your hair the care it deserves for a healthy, elegant and classy look always.
Secondly, loyalty rewards are a big part of Rogue House. "The logic is simple, really. People like to be recognized and appreciated. We want them to know they're a part of our journey and success, and that we know them and appreciate them," says Jamielynn. The more swag packs a client purchases throughout a given year, the more points the client gathers. There are rewards like coffee canisters, T-shirts and tote bags up for grabs. "Perhaps, the biggest reward is a refreshing and elegant new look every time one steps out of our salon", she adds.
A third extra perk, according to Jamielynn, is their honest pricing and work ethic. In New York and everywhere else across the world, there's often the problem of lack of trust for the stylist and the tendency to overcharge clients who simply want to look good. A price list of their hair services is available on the Rogue House website, and when we compared those to prices of leading salons in the city, it came off quite competitive. This, combined with honest interactions between staff and clients, is certainly an advantage for the outfit.
Another benefit that clients get at the salon is great entertainment. Equipped with Amazon echo, you can truly Netflix and chill while you get your hair done. And if your child or spouse has come to the salon with you, this is one way to keep them engaged and not grow weary of waiting for you to get your hair done- as they usually do. Nobody wants the constant nagging of a spouse or restlessness of a child that has accompanied them to the salon. And if for nothing else, the simple idea that they'll be entertained is a good prospect.
Lastly, there's probably nothing better than having a charging station and free Wi-Fi in a salon. You can get your phones or devices charged up or browse through your favorite sites as you get your hair done. As Jamielynn says, "our goal is to provide a wholesome experience for our clients. A place where they can spend an hour or two and not miss their homes. This is what we've built and we intend to get better".
